How is Elevit different to other pregnancy multivitamins?
Many of the pregnancy supplements available in Australia are basic multivitamins
that have been slightly adjusted for pregnancy. In contrast Elevit is based on a
formulation that has been scientifically proven to reduce neural tube defects in
a large, statistically significant clinical trial - the Czeizel study. Elevit has
relatively higher levels of certain key vitamins and minerals, which is why it's
only available from pharmacies.

Elevit contains 800mcg of folic acid - why is this higher than others?
800mcg was the amount of folic acid used in the Czeizel study, which in combination
with the other vitamins and minerals in the formulation showed such a significant
reduction in neural tube defects, including spina bifida.1

Are there any benefits in taking Elevit right through pregnancy?
Elevit, in conjunction with a healthy diet, helps meet the increased nutritional
requirements that occur throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding. There is an increased
requirement for iron during pregnancy, and Elevit can help prevent dietary iron
deficiency. Likewise, there is an increased need for folate throughout pregnancy,
with the majority of deficiencies occurring in the third trimester. Other vitamins
and minerals that are required at higher levels throughout pregnancy include zinc,
calcium, vitamin C, B6 and B12.
